Joseph Bennese

Joseph J. Bennese, 92, of Clearfield died on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at the Colonial Courtyard, Clearfield.
He was born on March 18, 1930 in Johnstown, a son of the late John and Antoinette (Zagarino) Bennese.
Joseph graduated from Johnstown High School in 1949, then went on to graduate from the California Teacher's College of California, PA in 1956. He later received his Masters Degree in Industrial Arts and Education from Penn State University in 1973.
Mr. Bennese was an Industrial Arts teacher at Moshannon Valley and Clearfield High School, where he retired from in 1993. He also served as adjunct faculty at Penn State University during the summer months.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield; Knights of Columbus Council 409; PSEA; Technology Education Association of PA; and AARP. In his spare time, Mr. Bennese enjoyed tending his flower garden.
Mr. Bennese served with the U. S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Elvira (Martinez) Bennese whom he wed November 19, 1955 in St. Anthony Catholic Church, Johnstown; three sons, John D. Bennese and wife Kathy of Allison Park, Michael J. Bennese of Clearfield, and Lawrence D. 'Larry' Bennese of Canadaigua, NY; five grandchildren, Aaron Bennese, Dominick Bennese, Angela Bennese Hoerner, Mario Bennese, and Ciara Bennese; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Domenick and Louis Bennese; a sister, Kay Azzarella; and a great granddaughter, Xandria Nicole Bennese.
Mass of Christian burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Monday at 11 with Fr. Robert J. Horgas as celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Anthony Cemetery, Johnstown.
Friends will be received at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Monday from 9-10:30 AM.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund 212 South Front Street, Clearfield, PA .
