Joseph Michael Colavecchi, 78, of Clearfield died on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Bethesda Memorial Hospital, Boynton Beach, FL.
He was born on June 29, 1931 in New York City, NY, a son of the late Joseph and Viola N. (Notor) Colavecchi.
Mr. Colavecchi was an attorney in Clearfield for 38 years. He was practicing with his son Paul at Colavecchi and Colavecchi, Attorneys at Law, Clearfield.
Joseph was a 1949 graduate of St. Francis High School and then attended St. John's University, New York City. He continued his studies at Gannon University, Erie where he graduated with a degree in Political Science. He then graduated law school at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
He was a member and served as past president of the Clearfield County Bar Association. He was also a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, Clearfield Sons of Italy Lodge No. 189 and a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Clearfield Council No. 409.
He served with the US Army in Korea. Joseph was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football fan and a New York Yankees baseball fan. He also loved horse racing and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Joan (Natoli) Colavecchi, whom he wed on August 26, 1961 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield; two children, Paul Charles Colavecchi of Clearfield and Mary Colavecchi O'Keefe and husband Jeffrey P. Carretto of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; four grandchildren, Michaela A., Joseph 'Cross' and Carly J. Colavecchi all of Clearfield and Samantha Kelly O'Keefe of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and a daughter-in-law, Kim Colavecchi of Clearfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Joseph Michael Colavecchi, Jr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Posts honor guard.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Tuesday from 5-8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 9-9:30 AM.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 South Front Street, Clearfield or to the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, 1 S. Front Street, Clearfield.
