Joseph Evanko

Joseph M. Evanko, 85, of Clearfield died on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Penn Highlands DuBois, surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with Parkinsons disease.

He was born on July 12, 1938 in Clearfield, a son of the late Joseph S. and Anna (Kupka) Evanko.

Joe graduated from Clearfield High School class of 1957, where he had served as class president for his Sophomore and Senior high school years. He was also a member of the 1957 District 9 Championship basketball team. Joe was a founding member of the Little League Baseball farm leagues in Clearfield and managed teams for both of his sons. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to camp and being amongst his family, friends and especially his grandchildren. He was retired from the Riverside Market, Clearfield as the bakery manager after 30 years of employment and was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield. Joe was known for his great personality and always had a thoughtful and kind words for everyone.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Florence 'Flo' (Bailor) Evanko whom he wed February 7, 1959; two sons, Joe Evanko Jr. and wife Marlene of Murrysville, and Steve Evanko and wife Heather of Butler; five grandchildren, Missy, Nathan, Joe, Sydney and Addy Evanko; a sister, Joann Thistlethwaite and husband Gary of Ligonier; and two nephews, Pat Thistlethwaite and wife Amy, and Chris Thistlethwaite and wife Tara; and his great nieces, Chloe, Emily, Parker and Quinn Thistlethwaite.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Tuesday at 10:00 am with Fr. Robert Horgas officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received at Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Monday from 4-7 PM and on Tuesday from 9-9:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Western PA Parkinson's Foundation, 850 Cranberry Woods Dr Room 2222, Cranberry Twp, PA 16066.
