Joseph T. Marafine, 90
of Curwensville died on Friday, August 22, 2008 at Altoona Regional Health System – Altoona Campus.
He was born on February 27, 1918 in Curwensville, a son of the late Serafine and Mary (Marafine) Marafine.
Mr. Marafine graduated from Curwensville High School, class of 1937 where he was the captain of the undefeated football team of 1936.
He attended Duquesne University and was a US Navy veteran of World War, II serving in the Atlantic and Pacific Theater.
He retired form McGregor Sportswear where he was employed for over 20 years. Prior to that, he worked for Howe Leather Co. in Curwensville and the General Electric Co. of Erie, PA.
He was Roman Catholic by faith.
He is survived by two sons, J. Thomas Marafine and wife Roberta of Cambridge Springs, James Price and wife Janet of Clearfield, seven grandchildren, Cara and Joe Marafine of Cambridge Springs, Valerie Freeman of FL, Vickie Wriglesworth of Clearfield, Holly McKolosky of DuBois, Jimmy Price of Reading, Kelli Harmon of Hawthorn, four great-grandchildren,
Eric and Shane Wriglesworth, Broc McKolosky and Allanah Freeman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel A. (Hickok) Marafine on May 23, 1992 and whom he married July 4, 1948 and three sisters, Rose Lutz Rosen, Augustine Lentz and Eleanor A. Tonucci and a brother, Victor Marafine
Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Tuesday at
11:00 A.M. with Rev. Mark S. Swoger officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Olanta.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion Post #6 and Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1785 honor guards.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8:00 PM and on Tuesday from 10-11:00 AM.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of one's choice.
