Joseph Mendolia

Joseph P. Mendolia, 86

of 626 Daisy Street, Clearfield died on Thursday, April 17, 2003 at Clearfield Hospital.

He was born on August 17, 1916 in Clearfield, a son of the late Nicola and Caterina (Fama) Mendolia.

Mr. Mendolia was employed at the former Robinson-Clay Products, PennDOT and retired from the Soult Wholesale Co.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, the Fourth Ward Elk Hose Co., the Clearfield Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #812 and the Clearfield Sons of Italy Lodge.
He also belonged to the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6 having served with the US Army during WW II.

He is survived by three daughters,
Catherine Biancuzzo and husband Phillip Clearfield
Rose Mary Heininger and husband Joseph Hollidaysburg
Joanna Bouch Mahaffey

11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren

a son-in-law,
Louis Legory Altoona

and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy M. (Pontillo) Mendolia on April 22, 1997 and whom he married February 7, 1938 in Clearfield, a daughter Nicki Legory, a son-in-law, Lynn Bouch and brothers Meleo, Dominic, Carmen, Nathan, John and an infant brother.

Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Posts.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Monday from
2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Tuesday from 9-9:30 AM.

On Monday at the funeral home, a Christian Vigil service will be recited at 3:30 PM, the Eagle’s memorial service will be said at 7:00 PM followed by the Sons of Italy Lodge memorial service.
