Karen S. Eshelman, 54
of State College died on Saturday, April 2, 2005 at her residence.
She was born on December 8, 1950 in Erie, a daughter of the late Thaddeus J. and Loretta E. (Dombrowski) Scott.
Mrs. Eshelman was a 1968 graduate of McDowell Senior High School, Erie. In 1972 she earned a bachelor of science degree in Food Service and Housing Administration from the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA. focusing her studies on Administrative Dietetics. She became a registered dietitian in 1976.
While living in State College, she was employed as a Consultant Dietitian at Meadows Psychiatric Services and as a sales rep with the JCPenney Corp.
From 1983 until 1993 she was a consultant dietitian at Community Dialysis Centers, Inc. Prior to that, she was a clinical dietitian at the United Community Hospital in Grove City and an assistant food service manager at Misericordia Hospital in Philadelphia.
She was a member of the American Dietetic Association, a past board member of Camp Confidence and the HOPE Center for Victims of Violence.
Mrs. Eshelman enjoyed hiking, camping and gardening.
She is survived by two children, Michael Eshelman and Jennifer Eshelman both of State College,
brothers and sisters, Daniel Scott, Thad Scott and Kathy Slomski, all of Erie and Elaine Melkowski and husband Dr. Scott Melkowski of Sarver, PA
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Eshelman on March 7, 1995 and whom she married September 9, 1972 in Clearfield.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield with Rev. P. Stevens Lynn officiating. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, 1140 West Jackson Blvd., Chicago IL 60607-2908.
