Karen 'Kay' L. Mathews, 79, of Grampian passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023 surrounded by her family at home.
She was born on September 15, 1943 in Grampian, a daughter of the late Clarence 'Bud' and Ida Mae (Thompson) Thomas.
She spent many years as a custodial worker for various local businesses and families, and spent time as a home health aid.
Kay was an avid gardener, crafter, and collector of recipes she enjoyed cooking for many family functions at their camp. Her other interests consisted of tole painting, collecting many unique items, and antiques. Her ultimate enjoyment was seeing to the needs of her family members at family gatherings.
She is survived by her husband, John 'Bob' R. Mathews III whom she wed October 24, 1959; two daughters, Robin Lumadue and husband Bill of Mahaffey, and Alison Logan and husband John of Grampian; three grandsons, Branden Logan of DuBois, Rance Logan of Grampian, and Colt Logan and companion Bailey Smith of Clearfield; five great-grandchildren, Scarlet LeFort, Sebastian LeFort, Dominic Logan, Zayn Logan, and Eli Logan, all of Clearfield; a sister, Ruth Ann Ireland and husband Clair of Curwensville; two brothers, Clarence 'Buddy' Thomas of Clearfield, and Roger Thomas and companion Darlene Schall of Clearfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Due to Kays wishes there will be no public viewing. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at their camp.
Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Curwensville is in charge of the arrangements.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Grampian-Penn-Bloom Volunteer Fire Co., 251 Main St., Grampian, PA 16838; or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
