Kenneth Sipes

Kenneth E. Sipes, 72, of Curwensville died on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at Altoona Regional Health System – Bon Secours Hospital Campus.

He was born on October 29, 1934 in Curwensville, a son of the late Leland H. and Margaret C. (Ruffner) Sipes, Sr.

Mr. Sipes served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1973 retiring as a Staff Sergeant. During that time he received the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster and the Army Commendation Medal.
He was also employed as a guard at the Clearfield County Jail retiring after 17 ½ years of service.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Philipsburg.

He is survived by a son, Keith A. Sipes; a granddaughter, Ashley Sipes; three brothers and a sister, Edward T. Sipes and wife Marie, Leland H. Sipes and wife Irene, Franklin C. Sipes and wife Mary Ann all of Curwensville and Connie Jean Young and husband Don of Roanoke, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Sipes, Jr., a brother, John C. Sipes, and two sisters, Mary Lou Shreffler and Martha Jean Smith.

Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Monday at 11:00 AM with President Jeffrey Hipps officiating. Interment will follow in the Bloomington Cemetery, Curwensville, RD.

Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the members of the Clearfield American Legion Post # 6 and Clearfield VFW Post # 1785 honor guard.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4:00 PM & 6-8:00 PM.
