Launcelot Soult

Launcelot Espy Soult, Jr. of Clearfield, passed away January 12, 2021 at the Penn Highlands Clearfield.

Born April 23, 1928, in Clearfield, he was the son of the late Launcelot Espy and Aileen Soult.

He graduated from Clearfield High School in 1946 and was involved in various activities including wrestling, football, and band.

He attended VMI, was a graduate of Gettysburg College majoring in political science and The Dickinson School of Law having earned his Juris Doctorate.

He was an owner of Soult Wholesale Company, working for over 50 years in the family business.

He was a Korean War Veteran being honorably discharged in March 1953 with the rank of First Lieutenant. He was awarded: The Combat Infantry Badge, a Silver Star, Korean Survivor Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. He also served in the Army Reserves for many years and retired as a Major.

He was involved in many community activities and served on numerous boards including: The Clearfield United Way, Clearfield Chamber of Commerce, The Bucktail Council of the Boy Scouts of America, The Rotary Club of Clearfield having been its president and honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He served on the Board of CNB Financial Corporation and was Chairman of the Board when he retired in 1998.

He was in numerous community bands fulfilling his love of music, playing both the flute and piccolo.

In November 1953 he married the former Patricia Kelley and is survived by their five children, Launcelot E. Soult III and his companion Suzanne Fletcher, Mary Theresa Soult, Edward Kelley Soult, Christine Soult Hannan (John) and Patricia Soult Srock (Jason). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda, and her children Curtis French (Shelly) and their children Gabe and Elizabeth, and Alecia Spingola (Darren) and their children Nicholas and Bella.

He was predeceased by his parents, brother, John, and first wife, Patricia.

The family would like to extend our grateful appreciation to Colonial Courtyard of Clearfield and the doctors and nurses of Penn Highlands Clearfield where he received excellent care.

Due to Covid19 restrictions, a private funeral mass will held at St. Francis Catholic Church. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery will follow with full military honors.
