Laura D. Wright, 95, of Curwensville died on Sunday, July 22, 2007 at Marion Manor II, Curwensville.
She was born on March 21, 1912 in Clearfield, PA, a daughter of the late Paul and Myrtle (McCullough) Dietzel.
Mrs. Wright graduated in 1930 from Clearfield High School and later from the Lancaster Business School.
She was employed by the former Clearfield National Bank during the Depression and later with her husband at the former Wright Hardware of Curwensville where she worked as a secretary and clerk.
She was a member of the Curwensville United Methodist Church having been member of various boards and committees. She taught Sunday school for a number of years and was a youth group director and choir member. She was the author and director of the 'Search for Peace' pageant which she wrote in 1960 and which has continued since.
Mrs. Wright was a member of the Curwensville Historical Society and was on the planning committee and a participant of the Curwensville Sesquicentennial celebration in 1949, the Curwensville 175th Celebration and the USA Bicentennial Celebration in 1976. In addition, she was a member of the Town Theatre Group and a former member of Curwensville School Board. She was also a member and past president of the Curwensville Women's Club and the Clearfield County Womans Club.
In 1976 she was the recipient of the Curwensvilles Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award.
She also volunteered at the local nursing home.
She is survived by three children, John M. Wright and wife Debra of Curwensville, Lillian W. Mimi Maggard and husband Den of Annapolis, MD and Edith J. Clowers and husband Bob of Reedville, VA; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 7 step great-grandchildren;and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Wright on September 18, 1996 and whom she married in 1934, grandsons Jess and Chad Maggard, brothers, Alfred, George and James Dietzel and sisters Mildred Baker, Dorothy Shaeffer, Lillian Eshelman, and an infant sister Mary Dietzel.
Funeral services will be held at the Curwensville United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Alison W. Grove officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Tuesday from 5-9:00 PM and at the church on Wednesday from 10-11:00 A.M.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Curwensville United Methodist Church, 602 State Street, Curwensville or to the Curwensville Public Library, 601 Beech Street, Curwensville.
