Leo H. Lanich, 78 of Clearfield died on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at Clearfield Hospital.

He was born on October 6, 1929 in Clearfield, a son of the late William C. Lanich and Nellie Mae (Smith) Lanich-Benjamin.

Mr. Lanich was a 1948 graduate of Clearfield High School. He was employed by John R. Crago, Brown Brothers, Al Hamilton, D.C. Guelich Explosives, Overland Express, ETR Racing, Gatti Services and most recently at St. John Lutheran Church. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Clearfield, the Old Town Sportsmen’s Association, the Clearfield Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #540 and the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6. He was also a lifetime member of the 3rd Ward Hose Company. He enjoyed NASCAR and Stock Car Racing.
A Staff Sergeant of the US Army, he served during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Joann (Mann) Lanich, whom he wed May 8, 1954 in Clearfield, three daughters, Barbara Ardery and husband Terry of Findlay, OH Brenda McDowell and husband Kelly of Gainesville, FL Beverly Schickling and husband Jerry of Clearfield four grandchildren, Charity Selvage and husband Jeff, Tyler Ardery, Kyle McDowell and Kayla McDowell 3 great-grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers, Judy Gardner and husband Jack of Clearfield, Joan Aveni and husband Jim of Clearfield, Edwin 'Skip' Lanich and wife Margaret of Clearfield and Merle Lanich of Cuba, NY and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Thomas B. Lanich.

A memorial service will be held at the St. John Lutheran Church, Clearfield on Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Matthew C. Holbert officiating. Interment will follow in Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion Post #6 and Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1785

Friends will be received at the church on Tuesday from 9-10:00 AM
