Leona G. Smith, 95, a resident of Epworth Manor in Tyrone for the past eleven years, and formerly of Curwensville died on Friday, December 30, 2005 at Tyrone Hospital.
She was born on October 30, 1910 in Elmira, NY, a daughter of the late Harry M. and Mary (Sefrend) Smith. She resided in New York until the death of her parents, at which time she came to Clearfield to make her home with her maternal grandparents.
She was a graduate of Clearfield High School, class of 1928.
During WW II, she was employed at Bell Aircraft Corp. in Niagara Falls. She then worked for Sperry Gyroscope Corp., now Taramax, in Great Neck, Long Island, NY, retiring after 22 1/2 years.
Following retirement, she resided in Curwensville where she was a member of the Curwensville United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a sister, Helen Way of Curwensville and a niece, Susan E. Way of Pottstown.
Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Arlene P. Beechert officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1-2:00 PM.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Curwensville United Methodist Church, 602 State Street, Curwensville.
