Lewis J. Gaylor, Jr., 85, of Clearfield died on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
He was born on October 1921 in Clearfield, a son of the late Lewis J. and Isabelle (Guy) Gaylor.
Mr. Gaylor retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in 1983 after twelve years of service. Prior to that, he had been employed by D.W. Hummel as a painter and wall paper hanger.
He was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church, Clearfield, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 812, the Loyal Order of Moose No. 97 and the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post No. 6.
A veteran of the United States Army, he served during World War II in the European Theatre.
He is survived by his wife, Zora (Knepp) Gaylor, whom he wed May 8, 1946 in Clearfield; two children, Daniel William Gaylor of Curwensville and Janet L. Stephens and her husband, William, of Clearfield; three grandchildren, Wendy S. Gaylor-Davis and her husband, Jerry, of Sanborn, Wesley P. Gaylor and his wife, Kristina, of Wincliffe, and David L. Stephens and his companion, Mandy Reed, of VA; and one great granddaughter, Denise Stephens of Clearfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy M. Gaylor, Lenora A. Courim and Rebecca J. Byers and a brother Lex W. Gaylor.
He was the last member of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Monday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jay E. Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion Post # 6 and the Clearfield VFW Post #1785 honor guard.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and Monday from Noon-1 p.m.
