Lois J. Keirn went to sleep at home in the presence of her family members.
She was born on November 30, 1935 in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Raymond H. and Arlena (Lansberry) Maurer. The family moved to Clearfield in 1936.
Lois attended Clearfield High School. Upon graduation she entered the Clearfield School of Nursing and graduated with the RN degree. She then became employed at Clearfield Hospital and worked until her first son was born. She paused her employment for 25 years to care for and raise her children. She went back to nursing and had a total of 20 years of service at the hospital, retiring in 2006.
While at CHS, she was active in Marching Band and Chorus and was selected for District Band and District Chorus. She was also a member of the High School Minstrel Show Cast that was put on at the Lyric Theater each year. It was there she met her husband to be, Richard 'Dick' Keirn, who was working the stage crafts at the Minstrel Show.
On June 22, 1956 Lois and Dick were wed and set up housekeeping. Lois told Dick she wanted to have a large family. When the family was completed there were 5 boys and 3 girls. First was Rich Jr., Michael, Kristen, Pamela (Thompson), Andy, Tom, Aaron, and Wendy (Hart).
The family attended the EUB Church and Sunday School faithfully. When the church merged with the Methodist Church, they continued to attend the Christ United Methodist Church until it closed. Lois and Dick then attended Emmanuel Church until she started having health problems. Lois was the organist at Christ United Methodist Church for many years.
She volunteered at the Clearfield Area Agency on Aging.
Lois was preceded in death by her father, mother, her sister, Nancy, and brother-in-law, Charles Lawrence.
Surviving are her husband, Richard L. Keirn, all 8 children, 22 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, and two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Vokes and Kitty Keirn.
Lois was a very special person who loved her husband and children, and was devoted to her family. She was a grandmother and great grandmother, and loved all of them and was proud of them all.
The breath of life and Holy Spirit have left Lois and returned to her Heavenly Father and one day she will go home to be with Jesus.
"There is a land of pure delight where saints immortal reign. Eternal day excludes the night and pleasures banish pain. There everlasting spring abides, and never withering flowers. Death like a narrow sea, divides this heavenly land from ours. Amen."
