Lyell Peters

Lyell C. Peters, 86 of Woodland died on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at his residence.

He was born on November 2, 1922 in Woodland, a son of the late Robert Samuel and Fannie R. (Lonjin) Peters.

Mr. Peters retired in 1987 after being employed as a heavy equipment operator.

He was a member of the BJW Fire Company, where he served as chief for five years, the F. Michael Sicks Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1785 of Clearfield, the Philipsburg American Legion Post #437 and the Clearfield Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #540. He was also a member of the Clearfield County Historical Society.
He served in the US Army 82nd Airborne Division during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Betsy J. (Woolridge) Peters, whom he wed May 29, 1951 in Winchester, VA three daughters, Linda C. Stone and husband Denny of Lanse, Susan M. Willis and husband Timothy of Lanse and Nancy L. Guiher and husband Rick of Hepburnia; six grandchildren, Ryan G. and Amanda L. Watson, Matthew T. and Danielle M. Willis, Brandi L. and Megan L. Guiher; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, two sisters Grace Beck and Jane Muir, and a brother Robert Peters.

A private graveside service will be held at the Bradford Cemetery, Woodland at convenience of the family with Rev. Rodger J. Gorton officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Clearfield Foundation for Health Hospice, PO Box 992, Clearfield.

The Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield is in charge of arrangements.
