Martha A. (Syphrit) McCloskey, 91
of Colonial Courtyard, Clearfield died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the Clearfield Hospital.
Born June 25, 1917 at R.D. Reynoldsville in Jefferson County, she was a daughter of Joseph W. and Blanche (Holman) Syphrit.
Mrs. McCloskey was married to Roy C. (Mack) McCloskey who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Esther Powell and her brother Glenn Syphrit.
She was a 1935 graduate of Reynoldsville High School and a 1940 graduate of the Clearfield Hospital School of Nursing. As an RN, she worked as an operating room nurse at Maple Avenue Hospital in Dubois and Norburn General Hospital in Asheville, NC and was later employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health in the child immunization program.
Mrs. McCloskey was a member of West Side United Methodist Church, Clearfield. She was also a member of the Clearfield Hospital Nurses' Alumni Association. She enjoyed sewing and tailoring, calligraphy, writing short stories and poetry, and baking for family and friends. She was an avid animal lover.
She is survived by daughters, Donna Andreacchi and her husband, Nicholas, of Fuquay Varina, NC and Susan J. Keefer and her husband, Kenneth, of Macungie, PA; grandchildren Laurie (Keefer) Miller and her husband, Kirk, of Delaware City, DE, Vernon Keefer and his wife, Maggie, of Emmaus, PA, Callan and Galen Andreacchi of Fuquay Varina, NC and a step grandson, Gene Andreacchi of Baypoint, CA. Also surviving are great grandsons, Jack and Luke Miller and three nieces and three nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Monday at 11 a.m. with Dr. Joleene A. Willis officiating.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 10-11 AM. Interment will be at Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the West Side United Methodist Church, 317 Nichols Street, Clearfield, PA 16830; or to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 541 Graham Station Road, Philipsburg, PA 16866.
