Mary K. Diehl, 86
of Clearfield died on Friday, August 6, 2004 at Clearfield Hospital.
Mary Virginia Kephart Diehl was born on February 27, 1918 in Curwensville, a daughter of the late Warren H. and Susan E. (McAlarney) Kephart.
She graduated in 1936 from Curwensville High School and in 1937 from Marinella School of Beauty Culture in Philadelphia. On November 19, 1937 she wed Fred C. Diehl in Bells Landing. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1997.
Mrs. Diehl was well known for her involvement in her community. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years, was a member of the Friendship Class and the United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Diehl was a former President of the Clearfield Hospital Auxiliary. She conceived and originated the hospital gift shop which is known today as the Cottage.
She was a former President of the Clearfield Womens Club. In 1972 she was named Woman of the Year by the Clearfield Business and Professional Womens Club. She was also a member of N.O.N, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Eastern Star. She was a Girl Scout Leader in the 1950s and was the first Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls in Clearfield.
Mrs. Diehl was on the state and local boards of the American Heart Association. She served many years on the state and local boards of the Easter Seal Society and received their special award the Brace for an Ace.
Mrs. Diehl was well known in the area as an actress. She was a member of the Old Town Players and the St. Johns Studio Players and received awards for her acting ability. She also performed an original show titled What is a Hat? for ladies groups throughout the area.
She was the last surviving member of her family, having been preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Helen S. Litke, Ruth Lang, Thelma Ammerman, Susan Elizabeth (Betty) Kephart, Kathryn Smith Ruch and her brother Gordon Kephart.
She is survived by children, Betsy Long and her husband Ken, Mary Sue Diehl, Nan Sennet, all of Clearfield, and Fred W. Diehl and his wife Brenda, of Curwensville.
Grandchildren, Kathy Herman, Mary Beth Long, Christi Powell, Dr. Thad Diehl, Katie Diehl, Michael Sennet and Joshua Diehl.
Great-grandchildren Krystina Herman, Jordyn and Justin Powell.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Monday from 6-9:00 PM
Interment will be held in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield on Saturday, August 21, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Kevin Locker officiating. Friends will be received at the church from
10-11 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Shoe Bank, 121 S. Second Street, Clearfield or to the Clearfield Hospital Greatest Need Fund, 809 Turnpike Avenue, Clearfield.
