Mary Jane Lee Woolridge, 87, of 222 South Second Street, Clearfield died on Sunday, October 2, 2005 at her residence.
She was born on February 22, 1918 in Clearfield, PA a daughter of the late Asbury Wright Lee Jr. and Jane (Joplin) Lee.
Mrs. Woolridge was a lifelong member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, a graduate of the Highland Hall School, Hollidaysburg and Finch College, New York City.
She was very active in the community having acted as president of the Clearfield Area Girl Scout Council from 1959 to 1963. She was also the director of the Childrens Aid Society for approximately 20 years. Mrs. Woolridge was an invited participant to the first annual Presidential Conference on Children and Youth.
She was a founding member of the Clearfield Community Chest, now known as the Clearfield Area United Way. She directed one of the first productions of the Old Town Players and participated in the Clearfield Community Concert Association, Clearfield Arts Studio Theater and the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging auxiliary.
She was a Kentucky Colonel and Admiral in the Cherry River Navy of Richwood, WV and was also a member of the Pennsylvania Society, Friends of the Palmer Museum of Art and the Clearfield-Curwensville Country Club.
Her interest included the arts, gardening, genealogy, travel, bridge, golf, snowmobile riding and fishing. She was once featured on "Big Ole Fish" with her prize catch. Mrs. Woolridge and her husband were named Persons of the Year in 2003.
She is survived by her husband, H. Rembrandt Woolridge, a daughter, Jane Lee Yare of Clearfield, a granddaughter, Courtney Casper Woolridge of Washington, DC and a sister and brother, Anna Vaughn Hinkle of Clearfield and Asbury W. Lee III of State College and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons George Ashley Woolridge and an infant son and a brother, Joseph Joplin Lee.
Memorial services will be held in the chapel of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Kevin Locker officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.
Friends will be received at the Trinity United Methodist Church on Wednesday from 9:30-11:00AM
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of one's choice.
