Melvin E. Hanes, 69
of Clearfield died on Friday, July 24, 2009 at his residence.
He was born on January 3, 1940 in Galeton, a son of the late Floyd and Elsie (Mead) Hanes.
Mr. Hanes was employed as a heavy equipment operator with the Operating Engineers Local 66 for 45 years. He was affiliated with the Curwensville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and was a member of the Robert Ferguson Post #842 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Curwensville.
He is survived by his wife, Doris M. (Hoyt) Hanes, whom he wed February 26, 1960 in Houtzdale; four children, David Hanes of Clearfield, Michelle Chelgren and husband Roy of Grampian, Victoria Blake and husband Allen of Greenville Pike, Jennifer Hanes of Clearfield; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth, Brandy, Joey and Travis Schurr, Jessica Tkajik, Michael, Jordon and Sarah Blake; four great-grandchildren, a brother and a sister, F. Edwin 'Buck' Hanes and wife Marie of Greenville Pike, Jane Wisor and husband Jim of Bloomington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters Joan Maines and Joyce Johnston and two brothers Elwin Dean and Jerry Lee Hanes.
A memorial service will be on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Curwensville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church with Rev. Stephen D. Shields officiating. Interment will be in the Bloomington Cemetery.
