Michael P. Charles, 62
of Grampian died on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born on June 8, 1949 in DuBois, a son of Percy J. and Marilyn B. (Solley) Charles of Grampian.

Michael was employed at Wickett & Craig in Curwensville. Prior to that, he worked for 22 years at the former Superior Pet Products, Curwensville.
He was a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren.
He was also a member and trustee of the Grampian Penn Bloom Volunteer Fire Co. where he served as Dive Master and VIP in 2011.
Michael was a life member of the Curwensville Veterans of Foreign Wars Robert Ferguson Post #842, a member of the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6 and the Sandy Hose Volunteer Fire Co., DuBois.
In addition, he was an associate member of the American Motorcyclist Association.
Michael had a love for the water as he enjoyed racing kayaks, diving with his wife and rescue diving.
He was a veteran of the US Navy having served on the USS Forrestal.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Linda (Volpe) Charles, whom he wed in Greenville Church of the Brethren in July of 2009; two children, Molley and Ryan Charles both of Clearfield; a grandson;
two step-children, Shawn and Misty Volpe both of DuBois; two brothers and a sister, Larry L. Charles and wife Dorothy of Grampian, Linda L. McCall and husband George of Grampian and Richard L. Charles and wife Pam of Clearfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister Lugene Lynne Charles.

Funeral services will be held at the Greenville Church of the Brethren on Monday at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. David Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenville Cemetery, Grampian.

Military honors will be accorded at the church by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Posts Honor Guard.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Sunday from
2-4 & 6-8 PM and at the church on Monday from 10-11:00 AM

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Grampian Penn Bloom Fire Co., 251 Main St, Grampian.
