Mildred W. "Millie" Callahan, 89 of Clearfield died on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
She was born on May 12, 1919 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Martin and Catherine (Brennan) Wendel.
Mrs. Callahan and her husband owned and operated the former Crown Distributing for twenty years. She also was employed by J. C. Penney.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield and the Rosary and Altar Society of the church. She was a past member of the Women's Club and the NON Club. In addition, she volunteered at the Clearfield Hospital Cottage.
She is survived by two daughters,
Colleen Brodie and husband Charles of Jackson, GA
Sandra Sloppy and husband Richard of Clearfield
four grandchildren,
Erin Cole of Kennesaw, GA
Ryan Brodie and wife Lis of Marietta, GA
Brian Sloppy of Northampton, MA
Andrew Sloppy of Clearfield
and one great granddaughter,
Miranda
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. "Mike" Callahan on December 28, 2004 and whom she married May 30, 1942 in Charlotte, NC, an infant son Michael Scott Callahan, three brothers Andrew, Elmer and Arthur Wendel and four sisters Theresa Gerber, Mary Baumgratz, Angela Cassidy and Lenora Garbic. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A memorial mass will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Friday, April 17, 2009 at 10 AM with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. as celebrant. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 South Front Street, Clearfield PA 16830 or to the charity of one's choice.
