Norma Boykiw

Norma Boykiw, 92 of Clearfield died on Monday, September 20, 2010 at her residence.

She was born February 3, 1918 in Clay County, Indiana, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Ressa (Johnson) Goble.

Mrs. Boykiw was a graduate of the Indiana State University, Class of 1941, receiving training in Health, Home Economics and Physical Education. She taught school and was a dietitian as well as a practical nurse. She was also an office manager for her husband’s medical practice, which they established in Clearfield. She was a member of the following patriotic organizations: Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America (DF&PA); Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR); the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century; and the Central Southwest Regent’s Club. She was a past member of the Board of the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library and a founding member of the Clearfield County Historical Society, as well as being active in many charitable organizations in past years. She was also active in many auxiliaries including the Medical Society Auxiliary.

She joined the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Washington, IN in 1947 and later became a member of The Presbyterian Church, Clearfield and also the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield.

She is survived by two sons, Russel A. Boykiw II of Oriental, NC and Mark E. Boykiw, MD FACS and wife Sharon (Lelik) of Indiana; four grandchildren, Damon, Nathan, Elizabeth and Claire; two sisters and a brother, Bonnie G. Huff of Sullivan, IN, Ann Lee G. Brock and husband Thomas of Paris, IL and Paul J. Goble and wife Mary Jane of Princeton, IL; and ten nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russel A. Boykiw, MD on September 4, 1992 and whom she married March 17, 1948 in Langhorne and also by a brother, George H. Goble.

A Memorial Mass will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Tuesday at 10 AM with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received at the church on Tuesday from 9-10:00 AM.

The Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the R.A. Boykiw Endowment Fund for Books, c/o the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, 1 South Front Street, Clearfield.
