Oden Denning "Bud" Gearhart, Jr. 83
of Clearfield died on Monday, July 6, 2009 at Clearfield Hospital.
He was born on August 7, 1925 in Clearfield, a son of the late Oden and Sara (Mann) Gearhart.
Mr. Gearhart was a life long dairy farmer.
He was a former rural mail carrier for US Postal Service and also was employed for 38 years at the Grange Mutual Insurance Co.
He was a 1942 graduate of Clearfield High School and a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Clearfield.
In addition, he was a member of the Susquehanna Grange No. 1145 for over fifty years.
He served with the US Army Air Corps during WWII and was a member of the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post No. 6.
He is survived by six children, Sandra L. Graham and husband James of Aurora, CO, Betsy A. Guthrie and husband Randall of Mineral Springs, R. Denning Gearhart of Clearfield, Dan E. Gearhart and wife Betsy of Clearfield RD, Carrol S. Davis and husband Gary of Spring Grove, William H. Gearhart and wife Gigi of Clearfield RD,
16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren,
his former wife, Dorothy Byers of Clearfield,
and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Gearhart, his longtime friend and companion, Mary Ann Shaw, three sisters, Mary Ethel Erway, Nadine Sherkel and Ellen Henry, and four brothers, Fred and Kenneth "Bull" Gearhart and infants, William and Harold Gearhart.
Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Thursday at
11:00 A.M. with Rev. Matthew C. Holbert officiating. Interment will follow in the Centre Cemetery, Hyde.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Wednesday from
4-8:00 PM and on Thursday from 10-11:00 AM.
