Pastor Shaffer

Pastor Robert E. Shaffer, 78

of Curwensville died on Saturday, September 18, 2004 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

He was born on July 3, 1926 in Clearfield, a son of the late Alvin Earl and Lucille (McCorkle) Shaffer.

He was employed by Harbison Walker Refractories prior to entering the ministry in 1959.
Pastor Shaffer retired from the Saltillo Independent Baptist Church in 1995, having served churches in Shade Gap, Altoona, Springboro and McLane.
He graduated in 1944 from Clearfield High School, where he played football and during that year was a wrestling state champion. Following graduation, he served in the US Navy during World War II until 1946.
Upon returning to this area, he became a member of the Fairview Baptist Church of LaJose, PA.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine Gearhart Shaffer, whom he married July 7, 1947,

two children,
Barbara Westover and husband Leon Curwensville
David P. Shaffer and wife Karen Meadville

four grandchildren,
Aaron and Gretchen Westover and Benjamin and Brockton Shaffer,

and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Thomas J. Shaffer and his twin brother Paul A. Shaffer.

Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Wednesday at
11:00 A.M. with Pastor John Leatherman officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Joy Cemetery, Clearfield RD.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Posts Honor Guard.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Tuesday from
2-4 & 6-8 PM and on Wednesday from 9:30 - 11:00 AM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Clearfield Hospital Home Health, PO Box 992, Clearfield or to the Curwensville Golden Tide Mat Club or the Clearfield Wrestling Boosters Club.
