Paul L. Salvatore, 97, formerly of Clearfield, died on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Julia Manor, Hagerstown where he had been a resident since July 2015.
He was born on November 24, 1918 in Clearfield, a son of the late Benedict and Arada (Lanager) Salvatore.
At a young age, he was employed at Robinson Clay Product Co. He retired as a foreman from the United Electric Cooperative (Unilec) after 40 years of service.
He was a past member of the Clearfield Borough Council, a life member of the Elk Hose Company, Clearfield, past president of the Clearfield Fire Department, past commander of Clearfield John Lewis Shade Post #6 of the American Legion, past commander of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 65 and a former member of the Clearfield Fair and Park Board. He was also a member of the Clearfield Lions Club and was a past president of the Club. He served as zone chairman of District 14J and past district governor of the Lions Club and received both the International President's Award and the Lions International Melvin Jones Award.
Paul was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Clearfield.
He was an Army veteran of World War II having served with the 190th Field Artillery, the Military Police at Camp Sutton, NC and with the 1654th Engineers, Allied Supreme Headquarters in France.
Paul enjoyed gardening, deer hunting all his life until about 89 years old when he even had a successful hunt, and fishing during his visits to Alaska.
He was a Penn State football and Pittsburgh Pirates fan for decades.
He is survived by three daughters, Sandra Salvatore and husband Noel Absher of Girdwood, AK, Paula Rosen and husband Marc of Millers, MD and Debra Sayler and husband Bradley of Hagerstown, MD; four grandchildren, Jeremy Applegate, Benjamin Applegate and wife Ginger, Kristin Cornell and husband Christopher and Erica Sayler; two great grandchildren, Shasa Applegate and Ethan Bubien; a brother, Richard Salvatore of Lewistown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Fetcenko) Salvatore on June 29, 2015 and whom he wed November 8, 1947 in Philipsburg. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, John, George, James and Harry Salvatore; and two sisters, Sylvia Salvatore and Thelma Clark.
Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Saturday at 11 AM. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 10-11 AM.
