Philip J. Accordino, 94, of Clearfield passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Colonial Courtyard, Clearfield, after a long bout with leukemia.
He was born on May 20, 1926 in Clearfield, a son of the late Sam and Angela (Magestro) Accordino.
He graduated from Clearfield Area High School in 1944. At age 12, he started playing clarinet in the CLearfield Citizens band and continued, until the pandemic curtailed performing, to play until he was 93 with the Clearfield Community Band.
Mr. Accordino worked at Sears and Roebuck for 44 years, retiring in 1988. He was a World War II verteran in the European Theater where he received two battle stars and the Combat Infantry Badge as a member of the 4th Armored Division under General George Patton. He served with the Army of Occupation in Germany until 1946. He remained in the Army Reserves for 21 years, retiring as a Chief Warrant officer.
He was a lifetime member of the Reserve Officers Association, member of the Tri-County Reserves Officers Club, the 4th Armored Division Association, the Knights of Columbus, the Sons of Italy, and the American Legion.
He is survived by three sons, Dennis and wife Emmylu of Clearfield, Ron and wife Susan of Apex, NC, and Michael of Agawam, MA. He is also survived by grandsons Drew Accordino and wife Melissa of Bedford, NY, and Matthew Accordino of Apex, NC; granddaughters Maria and Ana Accordino of Springfield, MA; great grandsons Jackson and Cooper Accordino of Bedford, NY; and sister, Biaggina A. Haas and husband Werner of Fallsington, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 69 years Decelina, brothers Nick and Carmen, and sister Josephine.
Mass of Christian burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 10 AM with Fr. Brandon Kleckner as celebrant. Burial will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Friends will be received at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm and Wednesday, May 26, 2021, 9:00 am - 9:30 am.
