Philip Wingard

Philip R. Wingard, 67, of Curwensville died on Friday, July 7, 2006 at Clearfield Hospital.

He was born on February 28, 1939 in Clearfield, a son of the late Lowery and Twila (Gearhart) Wingard.

Phil was an expert in the field of plastics having developed many types of plastic containers, such as the plastic milk container. He was a member of the Society of Plastic Engineers and worked at various locations throughout the United States. He was invited to speak at numerous conferences throughout the world, including Hawaii and Germany on plastic molding and machinery.

He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed golf, fishing, and hunting. One of his favorite pastimes was listening to the Curwensville High School football games on the radio with his pet dog Murphy.

Phil graduated from the Curwensville High School in 1957. He served seven years in the United States Army Reserves rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Military Police.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. (Carns) Wingard, whom he wed on October 30, 1959 in the Curwensville Presbyterian Church; two sons, Steven D. Wingard and wife Maureen of Linwood, NJ and David A. Wingard and wife Shelley of Medina, OH; five grandchildren, Ryan Hoffman, Samantha Wingard, David Wingard Jr., Michael Wingard and Kimberly Wingard; a sister and a brother, Linda L. Beynon and husband Dennis of Ocala, FL and William L. Wingard and wife Susan of Curwensville; his Uncle Barney and Aunt Almeda Wingard, his Aunt Margaret Wingard, and his Aunt Myrtle Kline, all of Curwensville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Daniel M. Osterhout of the First Baptist Church of Curwensville officiating and being assisted by Dr. C. Frederick Ralston. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion Post #6 and the Clearfield VFW Post #1785 honor guard.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 7-9:00 PM and on Tuesday from 1-2:00 PM

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Curwensville Public Library, 601 Beech Street, Curwensville, the Clearfield Foundation for Health- Hospice, P.O. Box 992, Clearfield or to the charity of one’s choice.
