A private service will be held at the convenience of the family of Robert D. Vokes Sr. who passed away January 28th, 2021 peacefully at home.
Born August 6th, 1935 in Clearfield, he was the son of George and Sara (Schrot) Vokes.
Bob was a teacher, having first taught 6th grade at Leonard Grade Elementary School for 5 years. He then taught 5th grade at Hyde Elementary School for 17 years where he was head teacher. Finally, he moved to the Clearfield Middle School where he taught Social Studies for 8 years before retiring in June, 1990.
He was a 1953 graduate of Clearfield High School where he was very active in both baseball and football. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Shippensburg State Teacher's College. Upon graduation from college, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, playing baseball for the USMC, 1959 semi-pro championship baseball team.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, the Clearfield B.P.O. Elks Lodge #540, The Sgt. William L. Dixon Detachment of the Marine Corps League, PSERS, and a former member of the Grandview Golf Course.
On February 18th, 1961 at St. Francis Catholic Church, he wed the former Bonnie R. Keirn, who survives.
Also surviving are 5 children, Jacqueline S. Ciamacco of Clearfield, Robert D. Vokes Jr. and wife, Beverly of Belleville, IL, Jennifer L. Royer and husband Al of Clearfield, Jill A. Redden and husband Fred of Clearfield, and William J. Vokes and wife Judy of Nashville, TN.
In addition he is survived by 9 grandchildren, Joseph Ciamacco; Emily, Nicholas, and Sydeny Vokes; Mason Royer; Ashley Bortot; Raeleigh and Makeeli Redden; and William J. Vokes, Jr; 2 great-grandchildren Rylen and Owen Bortot. He is also survived by sister, Carole Bartley and husband David, and a brother-in-law Gary Bolton.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, a son, Scott J. Vokes, and a grandaughter, Michelle Ciamacco.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Clearfield YMCA, Centre Grove United Methodist Church, or the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #540.
