Russell Dwight Gross
R. Dwight 'Squirell' Gross, 80, of Clearfield passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at his home.
He was born on May 14, 1943 in Coudersport, a son of the late Raymond L. Gross and Margaret L. (Freeman) Gross.
In June of 1967, he married his first wife, Sandra L. Notor of Clearfield, and on August 21, 1999 he married Darlene J Litz of Clearfield at the Centre Grove United Methodist Church in Clearfield.
Surviving are his wife Darlene; daughter-in-law Erin Gross of Montgomery, AL; three grandchildren, Jackson, Jameson, and Georgia Gross all of Montgomery, AL; a brother, Charles Gross of Coudersport; and a sister, Carol Shroeder of Coudersport.
Along with his parents parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jason L Gross; a sister, Evelyn Jenigen; and his twin brother, Ronald Duane Gross.
Dwight was employed by PennDot on the survey crew, then from there he went to heavy equipment school and was employed by various coal companies including Benjamin Coal and later retired from Hepburnia Coal. He was known by his CB handle, 'Squirrelly'.
He graduated in 1964 from Coudersport High School and enjoyed returning for his class reunions, only missing one. He enjoyed driving his 1994 Corvette on the weekends. Dwight could talk to anyone and everyone, young and old. You were not a stranger for long and you would leave with a smile on your face as he told his many jokes and stories. Laughter they say is the best medicine. His love for his family and grandchildren came first.
Aware of the need for others, he has donated over 15 gallons of blood. Dwight suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Red Cross, 152 W Long Avenue, DuBois, PA 15801.
Friends will be received at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 11 AM - 1 PM.
His final resting place will be Sweden Hill Cemetery in Coudersport, PA. Interment will be at a later date.
