Ruth J. Beabes, 94
of Clearfield died on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield.
She was born on April 26, 1908 in Clearfield, a daughter of the late Clarence G. and Sarah E. (Lloyd) Johnston.
She attended Clearfield schools until 1926, then attended Lock Haven College at Lock Haven, PA from 1929 until 1942, where she received her BS in Education.
Mrs. Beabes taught school in Clearfield from 1927, first at the one room school in Paradise, then at the Leonard Grade School for the next forty years, where she retired as principal.
She was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church since 1920 and taught Sunday School from 1924 until 1965 and sang in the choir until 1985. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Clearfield County Historical Society, the NEA, the PSEA, the CEA and the PSAR. In addition she was a volunteer for the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging.
She is survived by five nephews and three nieces,

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Beabes on May 14, 1960 and whom she married in 1951, brothers Orvis J., Walter W., John K. and William L. Johnston and a sister Helen DuWell.
At the request of Mrs. Beabes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to West Side United Methodist Church, 317 Nichols Street, Clearfield, the Clearfield County Historical Society, 104 E. Pine Street, Clearfield or to the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, 1 S. Front Street, Clearfield.
The Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield is in charge of the arrangements.
