Ruth Elinor Woodel, 94, of Grampian died on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at her home.
She was born on May 20, 1911 in Grampian, a daughter of the late Guy A. and Anna (Peterson) Woodel.
Ms. Woodel was employed for more than 25 years as the 'Grampian Area News' correspondent for the DuBois Courier Express. Previously she was employed as a clerk for many years at the former W.E. Derrick's Grocery and Supply Store until its closing.
She also was a co-owner of Woodel's Music Store in Curwensville during the 1950s.
She was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church, Grampian since April 2, 1933 and a member of the churchs H.W.W. club from 1933 to 1937. She was baptized in the Grassflat Lutheran Church in May 1913.
She was a member of the 4-W Orchestra and various musical groups.
Ms. Woodel was presented The Golden Citizen award at the 114 Anniversary of Grampian Boro and in1990 was presented the Senior Citizen Award for her untiring achievements by the homecoming festival committee.
She is survived by two brothers, Robert G. Woodel of LeGrange, GA and Ralph V. Woodel of Grampian, RD and three nieces, five nephews and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Esther V. Weber and Elma D. Rupert, two brothers, Carl A. Woodel and Harry K. Woodel and an infant twin brother and sister, two grandnieces and a grandnephew.
Private funeral services will be held at the family home in Grampian with Pastor Emmett Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Friends Cemetery, Grampian. There will be no public visitation.
