Samuel R. Copenhaver, 81, of Clearfield died on Monday, December 5, 2011 at Clearfield Hospital.
He was born on February 8, 1930 in Clearfield, a son of the late Jerimiah ‘Jerry’ and Mabel (Lawhead) Copenhaver.
Mr. Copenhaver was an Electronic Engineer at Penn State University for 21 years.
He was a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Electronics.
He was a licensed pilot, flight instructor and repaired two-way radios.
A veteran of the US Air Force, he served during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Arnoldine A. (Hudson) Copenhaver, whom he wed November 30, 1952 in Clearfield; four daughters, Irene Ohler of Johnstown, Carol Lauver and husband Gary of Clearfield, Valerie Lockett and husband Ricky of Johnstown and Debra Hockenberry and husband Willie of Clearfield; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Annie Rose of Clearfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Verna White and Esther Shangraw and three brothers, Francis, James and Jerimiah Copenhaver, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Saturday at 3 PM with Pastor John F. White officiating. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 1-3:00 PM.
Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Posts’ Honor Guards.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in honor of Samuel Copenhaver to the American Alzheimer’s Association, 1128 State Street, Suite 301, Erie, PA 16501-1920.
