Samuel J. Ricotta, 81, of Clearfield died on Thursday, July 12, 2007 at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

He was born on September 8, 1925 in Clearfield, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Cardinale) Ricotta.

Mr. Ricotta retired in 1990 from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania where he was employed as a boiler inspector for over 25 years, covering numerous counties in Pennsylvania. In addition, he held a National Board Commission from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He had previously been employed for 18 years by the former Harbison Walker Refractories #2 Works.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield where he was an usher and hospitality minister. In addition he was a member of the Sons of Italy Lodge, Clearfield.
A veteran of the US Navy, he served during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Rose (Lemmo) Ricotta, whom he wed September 27, 1947 in St. Francis Catholic Church; two sons, Joseph M. Ricotta and wife Karen of Erie and James S. Ricotta of Altoona; two grandchildren, Chuck Ricotta and fiance Ariel Toews of Ann Arbor, MI and Connie Ricotta of Erie; three sisters, Grace Gibino of Catlet, VA, Rosalie 'Lil' Mitchell of Fairborn, OH and Anna VanFleet of Dawson;
and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers Pasquale, Santo, Charles and Joseph Ricotta and a sister Mary Molinari.

Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Saturday at 9:30 A.M. with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion Post #6 and the Clearfield VFW Post #1785 honor guard.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Saturday from 8:30-9:00 AM.

A Christian Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 1:45 PM.
