Shirley Wingard

July 31, 1939 — November 7, 2010

Shirley Ann Wingard, 71, of Clearfield died on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Clearfield Hospital.

She was born on July 31, 1939 in Clearfield, a daughter of the late William and Mary (Blanche) Carns.

During her high school years, she was a proud member of the Clearfield High School Marching Band Front. Graduating in the Class of 1957, she enjoyed being a member of the committee for her class get-together that was celebrated this summer. While in high school, she participated in the Old Town Players and acted in the title role in "Time Out for Ginger," with Dick Mitchell as one of the leading males and directed by Fred C. Gearhart, Sr. Shirley also loved working with her fellow members of the Class of '57 at the soda fountain of Cowdrick's Drug Store. Shirley Later enjoyed working as a Tupperware representative, retail sales, newspaper route manager, and at a bonsai nursery.
Her interests included reading, especially Thomas Kinkade books. She delighted in doing puzzles, trying new recipes and foods. However, her greatest pleasure came from a wide variety of crafts. Shirley used her talents in such areas as textiles, ceramics, paintings, and wooden decorations. Many of her gifts were shared with her family and friends to enjoy. Her crafts were lovingly made which demonstrated her gifts of time and talent.
Shirley loved to share good things. Visitors to her home frequently left with food items or unique treasures selected especially for them. Her joy was finding the perfect gift to give. For her, good times were always better when shared with loved ones, especially her extended family. Shirley loved her neighbors and neighborhood. She enjoyed their visits and was thankful for the support and help they offered her. With her neighbors in mind, she made improvements to her home and lawn so they also could take pleasure in them.
The light of Shirley's life came from a small black furry body, her cairn terrier, Murphy. Together they shared the sunshine of her patio, the view from her picture window, or a comfortable chair. "Murph-man" and Shirley were familiar sights in her neighborhood.
Shirley was affiliated with the West Side United Methodist Church in Clearfield.

She is survived by a son, David A. Wingard and wife Shelley of Medina, OH; four grandchildren, Samantha, Kimberly, David and Michael Wingard; three sisters, Jane Williams and husband Leslie of West Decatur, Judy Carson and husband Winfield 'Skip' of Pittsburgh and Gail C. Ralston and husband Dr. Fred of Clearfield; a brother-in-law and two sister-in-laws, Clarence 'Bud' Ruof of Clearfield, Linda Beynon and husband Dennis of Ocala, FL and Susan Wingard of Curwensville and several nieces and nephews.
