Sylvester H. Shimmel, 86, of Clearfield died on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Clearfield Hospital.
He was born on February 5, 1923 in Clearfield, a son of the late Hugh and Edna Shimmel.
Mr. Shimmel retired from The Progress, Clearfield. Prior to that, he was employed as an oil burner mechanic for various companies in Clearfield.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield.
A veteran World War II, Mr. Shimmel served in the US Army.
He is survived by a son, George "Dudley" Shimmel of Clearfield and a sister Pearl Roseberry of Clearfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Delila (Bowley) Shimmel on May 3, 2006 and whom he married November 3, 1949 in Rasselas, two brothers John and Richard Shimmel, and three sisters, Alverta Natoli and Nancy and Mae Shimmel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Monday at 10 AM with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
At the request of Mr. Shimmel, there will be no public visitation.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Francis Church, 212 South Front Street, Clearfield.
