Thomas J. Spingola Jr., 96, of Clearfield died on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Penn Highlands, DuBois.
He was born on March 9, 1928 in Clearfield, a son of the late Thomas Sr. and Mary (Kaski) Springola.
Mr. Spingola was employed at Zurn's Manufacturing in Erie for 2 years. While in Erie, he was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps for the Elks. He then moved to Clearfield and started his own business, Thomas Spingola Trucking, which he operated from 1965-2012. Mr. Spingola quit St. Francis School to join the Army and served in World War II under General Patton from 1944-1946, achieving rank of T5 corporal. He was a boating enthusiast and a member of the Yacht Club in Erie and treasurer of the Clearfield Boating Club. Mr. Spingola was a Past Commander for the Clearfield VFW and District 22, a member of the Clearfield American Legion, a 4th degree Sir Knight and Deputy Warden of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Clearfield Sons and Daughters of Italy. Mr. Spingola was also the PA VFW District 22 Judge Advocate.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Keirn and husband Tom of Peachtree City, GA; four granddaughters, Kathleen Ann of Atlanta, GA, Ellen Michelle of Atlanta, GA, Meghan Nicole of Peachtree City, GA, and Grace Olivia of Peachtree City, GA; a sister, Irene Wisor and husband Fred of Clearfield; and a step son, Dan Squires.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Ann (Lansberry) Spingola on March 13, 1981; and six sisters, Madelene Spingola, Elizabeth Morrison, Margaret Rowles, Mildred Zattoni, Loretta Swatsworth, and Rita Blake.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 12:30 PM with Fr. Robert Horgas officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.
Military honors will be accorded at cemetery.
