Victor J. Catalano, 84, of Clearfield died on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at the Knickerbocker Villa, Clearfield.
Born October 24, 1938 in Curwensville, he was the son of the late Roy R. and Sarah (Marinoble) Catalano.
After graduating from Curwensville Area High School in 1956, he worked for North American Refractories Co., Curwensville. He was then employed for three years with RCA BMEWS at Thule, Greenland. He was a full-time member of the US Army Reserves for 39 years, including assignments in Clearfield, Ravenna, Ohio, and Williamsport, retiring in 1998.
Victor was a PIAA basketball official for 36 years, holding membership with the National Association of Sports Officials. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, the Clearfield Knights of Columbus #409, and the John Lewis Shade American Legion, Post 6, Clearfield. He was also an AARP Tax-Aide volunteer for more than 15 years.
He is survived by his wife, Sara E. (Valenza) Catalano whom he wed April 15, 1967 at St. Francis Catholic Church; four children, Stephen Catalano of Pittsburgh, Susan Thorp and husband Jeff of Clearfield, Christopher Catalano and wife Krista of Erie, and Julie Price and husband Matt of Huntingdon. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Stephanie Rimel, Abbie Van Every, Avery Lawhead, Joseph Catalano, Nicholas Thorp, Nathaniel Thorp, and Connor Price; and two great-granddaughters, Madalyn and Natalie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rosalie Fleck, and a niece, Shelia Hockenberry.
Mass of Christian burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Tuesday at with 11 AM. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Military honors will be accorded at cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Monday from 4 PM - 7 PM.
A Christian Vigil service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 3:45 PM and the Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund 212 South Front Street, Clearfield, PA .
