Viola M. McCracken, 88, of Clearfield died on Friday, July 1, 2011 at Clearfield Hospital.
She was born on November 22, 1922 in Clearfield, a daughter of the late William C. 'Bucky' and Nellie (Stewart) Kline.
Mrs. McCracken retired from the Clearfield County Homemakers where she was employed as a supervisor. Prior to that, she owned and operated M & M Laundromat in Clearfield for many years and had also been employed by Joe’s One Hour Cleaners.
For much of her life, Viola was a devoted caregiver to her daughter, Peggy.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield and a member of the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6, Auxiliary.
Viola joined the Clearfield Aerie #812 Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary on November 25, 1957 where she has since filled all offices except secretary. She had been honored as President, Mother of the Year, Mrs. Eagle, District II Mrs. Eagle, District II Director and Bowling Chairman for FOE Auxiliary Bowling Teams. She will be remembered for her loyalty to the Auxiliary.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Charles and Peggy McCracken, both Clearfield; two daughter-in-laws, Donna McCracken and Glendora McCracken, both of Clearfield; six grandchildren, David McCracken of Clearfield, Michele Rebollar of Chicago, IL, Shawn McCracken, Clifton ‘Kippy’ Charles and fiancé Serena McCracken, Michael David Charles and wife B.J. and Jeannie Lumadue and husband Thomas, all of Clearfield; eighteen great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver McCracken on October 10, 1990, two sons, David and Bill McCracken; a grandson, Billy McCracken; a son-in-law Clifton P. Charles and three brothers, Jim, William Samuel and Harry Kline.
A Funeral Blessing Service will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. with Msgr. Henry L. Krebs officiating. Interment will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 10-11:00 AM
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, 26 S. Second Street, Clearfield.
