W. Barton Thompson

W. Barton 'Bart' Thompson, 96, of Clearfield, died on Monday, November 15, 2021 at his home.

He was born on March 4, 1925 in Glen Richey, a son of the late Stanley R. and Mary (Richards) Thompson.

Bart was a graduate of Clearfield High School, class of 1943. After returning from military service, he was employed by Knights Life Insurance Co. from 1948-1953 where he was the Assistant Superintendent of the DuBois office. On December 3, 1953, he opened and established Thompson and Buck, Inc. where he retired as President in 1987. For enjoyment, Bart loved spending time with his family, and participating in the Father/Son golf tournaments at the Country Club. He also enjoyed golfing with his friends. He was a long-time member of the Thursday night poker club that began in the early 1960's and continues today.

He was a member of St. Francis Church, Clearfield, the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #540, Clearfield, the Clearfield American Legion, the Clearfield Knights of Columbus and the Clearfield Curwensville Country Club. Bart was also a charter member of Boy Scout Troop 3, Plymptonville, and served on the Bucktail Boy Scout Counsel and the County National Bank Board of Directors for many years.

Bart was a World War II veteran of the of the 9th Air Force, serving from 1943-1946. He was a member of the 409 Bomber group that had tours in England, France, Belgium and Germany.

He is survived by three children, Jeffrey J. Thompson and wife Linda, Kate A. Thompson, and Matthew A. Thompson and wife Jo, all of Clearfield; four grandchildren, Jeffrey 'Bucky' J. Thompson II and wife Melissa, Jodi E. Thompson, Aaron M. Williams and wife Nikki, and Allison M. Cossick and husband Tommy; four great grandchildren, Hayden M. Williams, Ruby A. Cossick, Wiley B. Cossick, and Thomas Q. Cossick; a brother, Sylvester 'Pete' Thompson and wife Maggie; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bette (Buck) Thompson on December 7, 1994 and whom he wed February 13, 1947 by Fr. Martin Glynn at St. Francis Rectory. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, John 'Bud' Thompson and Richard 'Dick' Thompson; and a sister, Dorothy 'Dot' Kelly. After the death of his wife Bette, he spent many enjoyable years with a special friend Rosemary McCorkle

Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Styers Cemetery, Hyde.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Endowment Fund 212 South Front Street, Clearfield, PA .
