W. Richard Newton, 83

of Clearfield died on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

He was born on August 9, 1930 in Philipsburg, a son of the late John W. and Maude Ida (Baer) Newton.

A welder for 45 years, Mr. Newton retired from Avery Coal Company after 18 years of service. He then was employed at the former Thorns Neighborhood Market.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield and the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6.
He also volunteered at St. Francis School.
A veteran of the U. S. Army, he served during the Korean War and also with the Army Reserves.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann J. (Loverso) Newton whom he wed September 5, 1953 in Coalport; two children, Barb Dettore and husband Dave of DuBois and John Newton and wife Deborah of Canonsburg; two granddaughters, Jessica Laing and husband Matthew and Jennifer Pisarcik and husband Mark; and a great granddaughter, Paisley Pisarcik.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Shirley Ann and Debbie Ann; a brother, James W. Newton and four infant brothers.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield with Msgr. Henry L. Krebs officiating. Interment will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Military honors will be accorded at cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Posts Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 121 N. Second Street Clearfield, PA 16830 or to the DuBois Area Catholic Schools, PO Box 567, DuBois, PA 15801.
