Ward Spence

Ward A. Spence Jr., 91, of DuBois, formerly of Clearfield, died on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Penn Highlands DuBois.

He was born on August 18, 1924 in Clearfield, a son of the late Ward A. Sr. and Jane (Undercoffer) Spence.

Ward was an avid photographer, archer, electronics aficionado, audiophile, and a lover of nature. He served his country in US Navy during World War II and was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Electronics Technician’s Mate. Ward was stationed on the USS Panamint during the American assault on Okinawa and witnessed numerous Kamikaze attacks.
Ward is survived by two nieces and four nephews: Jack Spence and wife Jan, Jeryl Mitsch and husband Larry, Ward Spence and wife Sandy, Eric Spence and wife Lori, Jeanine Droeger and husband Ed, and Daniel Spence and wife Peggy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John L. 'Jack' Spence and wife Jean.

Mass of Christian burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Saturday at 10 AM with Father John L. Miller as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Friday from 5-7 PM and on Saturday from 9-9:30 AM.
