William G. "Computer Man" Baker, 68, of Clearfield died on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at his residence.
He was born on November 21, 1941, in Altoona, a son of the late Fred Baker and Bernice (Bogle) Baker Wertz.
Mr. Baker retired from the Clearfield Hospital as the safety and risk manager after 30 years of employment. Prior to that, he was employed at M.W. Woods Co. in Pittsburgh. Following retirement, Mr. Baker operated both a computer repair business, a trade which was self taught, and an office cleaning business.
He was a member and past president of the Clearfield Jaycees, winning the Pennsylvania state 'Speak Up' award during his term as president. He was a former member of the Clearfield Curwensville Country Club and the Grandview Golf Course.
Mr. Baker graduated from Altoona High School in 1959. He received certification in Executive Housekeeping from Parkersburg Community College, Parkersburg, West Virginia. He also completed several courses from the Clearfield County Career and Technology Center.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Grimes) Baker, whom he wed June 1, 1963, at St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, Coalport; two daughters, Catherine Inzitari and husband, Frank, of Cream Ridge, N.J. and Jacquelyn Smith of Spokane, Wash.; five grandchildren, Mitchell, Kelsey and Christian Smith, Zachary and Rachel Inzitari; five brothers, Fred Baker and wife, Shirley, of Duncansville, Dale Baker, Steven Wertz and wife, Veda, Barry Wertz and John Wertz, all of Altoona; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Jack Baker.
Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Saturday at
5:00 P.M. with Dale Baker, Williams brother, officiating.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 2-5 p.m.
