A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 26, 2002 at 2:00 PM at the Curwensville United Methodist Church for William R. Butch Howell, 57 of Webster, NY and formerly of Curwensville who died on Wednesday October 2, 2002 in Webster.
Reverend Arlene Beechert will officiate. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.
Born October 29, 1944 in Clearfield, he was the son of the late William B. and Vera (Boyce) Howell. His aunt Jean Boyce also preceded him in death.
Bill Butch graduated from Curwensville High School in 1962. Excelling in sports, he played baseball, football and basketball, having been a 1000-point scorer. During his freshman year at Penn State University, he signed a contract with the Class A team of the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the off-season he continued his education and graduated from Penn State in 1967.
Upon graduation from Penn State, he began his career as a physical education teacher and basketball coach in Hornell, NY. He was a committed and dedicated teacher and coach from 1967 until 1971.
In 1971 he furthered his career and accepted a position with Readers Digest until his retirement in 1999. He then continued to do contract work for Readers Digest and also returned to the teaching profession as a substitute taught in the Webster School District.
He is survived by his wife, Victoria (Strickland) Howell and daughter Wendy K. Howell,
also by four sisters and two brothers,

Susanne Collins and husband Duane Curwensville
Amy Keller and husband Ernest Clearfield
Richard L. Howell and wife Susan Curwensville

Evelyn Borger both of Curwensville
and nineteen nieces and nephews.
He is further survived by his father and mother-in-law,
Richard and Kathleen Strickland Curwensville
sisters-in-law,
Kathy Michaels and husband Lou
Cynthia Morgan and husband Scott
brother-in-law,
Richard Strickland and wife Michelle all of Curwensville
and by his beloved pets,
his Arabian Horses, his Sheltie Dogs and his Himalayan Cats.
The courtesy of no flowers is requested and contributions in memory of Mr. Howell may be made to the Curwensville United Methodist Church, 602 State Street, Curwensville or to the Curwensville Public Library, 601 Beech Street, Curwensville.
Following the memorial service and interment, friends and family are invited to a celebration of life at the Curwensville VFW social room, River Street, Curwensville.
