William Marriott

William H. Marriott Sr., 98, of Clearfield, died on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Penn Highlands Clearfield.

He was born on October 25, 1924 in Wyano, a son of the late Joseph and Sarah (Cowfer) Marriott.

Mr. Marriott retired in 1986 from Tafco, Inc. of Hyde as a sheet metal mechanic after 32 years of employment. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II, serving for 3 years in the Pacific as a Gunner's Mate 3rd Class aboard the Battleship New Jersey. He was a plank owner and part of the original crew on the battleship.

He was a member of Mount Joy United Methodist Church, the Clearfield American Legion, the Clearfield VFW, the U.S.S. New Jersey Veteran's Inc. and the Sheet Metal Workers Union.

He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Marjorie (Adams) Marriott; a son, William Marriott Jr. and wife Holly of Hollidaysburg; a granddaughter, Rev. Traci Marriott of Duncansville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Erma Pyle, Mary Favorite, Agnes Carter, Francis Callen, and Dorothy Fetterman; and a brother, James Marriott.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Mount Joy United Methodist Church, PO Box 409, Clearfield, PA 16830 .
