William H. Stewart, 76
of 705 Hannah Street, Clearfield died on Saturday, November 20, 2004 at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
He was born on August 5, 1928 in Clearfield, a son of the late W. Howard and Mary (Rhinehart) Stewart.
Mr. Stewart was employed with the Clearfield Borough Police Department for several years. Prior to that he was an insurance salesman for Helmbold and Stewart, Inc. and also sold fire extinguisher equipment.
He read the river from the Market Street Bridge plus the precipitation and temperature for the National Weather Service for 26 plus years and received the John Campanius Holmes award for outstanding meteorological and hydrological observations.
He was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church, Clearfield and was president of the West Side Methodist Men. He was a life member of the Clearfield Fire Department and a 50 year member of Clearfield Fire Co. #1 where he served as president, secretary and treasurer.
He also was a 50 year member of the Clearfield Lodge #314 Free and Accepted Masons and a member of the Royal Arch chapter #228, the Moshannon Council #56, #74 Knights Templer, the Altoona Consistory and the Shriners.
In addition, he was a member of the Clearfield Chapter #379 Order of the Eastern Star, the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6 and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine M. (DeVore) Stewart, whom he married August 15, 1981 in Clearfield,

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons Charles and Danny Stewart and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Wednesday at
10:00 A.M. with Rev. Jay E. Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion
Post 6 Honor Guard.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Wednesday
from 9 - 10:00 AM.
A Masonic memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 6:30 PM at the funeral home.
