William Swisher

William E. Swisher, 87, of Clearfield passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at the Penn Highlands Clearfield.

He was born on October 23, 1936 in Clearfield, a son of the late Arthur and Althea (Carr) Swisher.

Mr. Swisher retired from the IBEW Local Union #5. He had also worked for Electric Supply and R.D. Goss Electric.

He was a member of The Presbyterian Church where he was a past deacon and served on session. Mr. Swisher was also a member and former chief of the 3rd Ward Fire Department, a member of the Local 5 IBEW Union, served on Borough Council and the board of the Clearfield Water Authority. He was also a member of the Fire Police, the Clearfield Elks and the Clearfield Masonic Lodge. Mr. Swisher was a volunteer for hospice and a member of the MoValley Cycle Corps with the Jaffa Shrine.

He is survived by his wife, Judy (Lachat) Swisher whom he wed February 11, 1995; two daughters, Sharon Cooney of NC, and Traci Robison and husband Andrew of Clearfield; three grandchildren, Patrick Cooney, Denise Mooney and husband Travis, and Jacob Robison; two great grandsons, Hayden and Dakota; three step children, Connie Hess of Clearfield, Cindy Ott and husband Randy of Curwensville, and Dave McBride of Clearfield; and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Verna Swisher; and four sisters, Margaret Jean Wighaman, Joyce Bowser, Barbara Strickland, and twin sister, Betty Freeburg.

Funeral services will be held at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 12 PM with Judi Bookhamer officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 AM - 12 PM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Presbyterian Church, Clearfield 119 N. Second Street, Clearfield, PA 16830; or the Clearfield Fire Department, 108 E. Cherry Street, Clearfield, PA 16830.
