Zaneth J. Casteel, 94, of Clearfield died on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Penn Highlands Clearfield.
She was born on November 2, 1928 in Hecla, Westmoreland County, PA, a daughter of the late Abraham S. and Mabel (Overly) McGiffin.
Zaneth graduated from the Henry Clay Frick Memorial Hospital nursing program as a Registered Nurse. She was employed by Mercy Hospital in Davenport, IA in the Labor, Delivery, and Nursery department. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield where she taught Sunday School, served as a Trustee, past president of the Christian Women's Club, member of the Friendship Class, and enjoyed being part of the worship service. She had sang in the church choir for the last ten years. She was also a member of the Eastern Star #379 of Clearfield.
Zaneth was very musical, from singing, playing organ and piano, guitar and her biggest joy, the harp. She played harp for over 30 years and was the past president of the Central PA Harp Society. Zaneth was also a gifted artist, especially in the media of acrylic and oils. She was a member of SRAC and had painted a mural at the Trinity United Methodist Church. However, most of all, she felt her greatest blessing was her family.
She is survived by five children, Karen Miller and husband Dennis of Clearfield, Dr. Gary Casteel and wife Vickie of Curwensville, Donna Collins and husband Martin of Clearfield, Dr. Mark Casteel and wife Kerri of Clearfield, and Dr. Scott Casteel of DuBois; twelve grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Donald M. Casteel on October 5, 2013 and whom she wed August 16, 1949. She was also preceded in death by three grandsons, Dr. Joshua Casteel, Martin Collins II, and Jedd Collins; a brother, Wilmer McGiffin; and a daughter-in-law, Melessa Casteel.
Funeral services will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, on Friday at 11 AM with Pastor Jonathan Morningstar officiating. Interment will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Friends will be received at the church on Friday from 9-11 AM.
